Flex gets a new windshield

Today my Flex got a new windshield.

Got crack?

It made it home unscathed from my 3000+ mile journey home from its purchase location in Iowa. But once it got home, it was damaged.

Since I have a Limited model, it came with the acoustic SoundScreen windshield made by Carlite.

Do you have a SoundScreen?

Do you have a SoundScreen?

Based on my research, their appeared to be a difference between the two windshields. Some forum members mentioned that there was a slight noise difference. The replacement non acoustic version was about $100 less and the glass guy said that he could lower my deductible by $40 if I went with the standard glass.

In the end, I decided to stick with the original acoustic SoundScreen glass since I was only responsible for my $100 deductible and saving $40 wasn’t worth it to me.

I ended up going with the “preferred provider” that my insurance guy recommended. (I normally don’t do this, but the yelp! reviews were good and the guy seemed to know about my car and was asking the right questions.)

When checking out posts from other Flex owners about their windshield replacement experience, I knew that the A-Pillar covers (windshield side panels) might need replacing. I mentioned this to the replacement company and he said that “he would make sure the installer would have all parts needed”. Sure enough that was the case….. here were the old covers:

One cover was severely cracked and the other had broken clips and retainers. You will most likely need new covers if you replace your windshield. Cost was $140/ea!

And the new covers installed:

New A-pillar covers installed!

When looking for a company to replace your windshield, make sure they are aware of the very likely need of replacement A-pillar covers!

I couldnt be happier with the work. It has a lifetime warranty against leaks and workmanship and is backed by my insurance company. Now to remove the tape.

Here was the invoice for the work done…

Total cost of the windshield replacement was over $900! The A-pillar trim pieces alone were almost $240!
